Contentment – One of God’s Good Gifts

The Precious Treasure of Contentment

“I am . . . Content”

God’s precious treasure is already yours the moment you trust Christ. “In Whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:3) Ask God to let contentment be the controlling factor of your life.

The word “content” translates a word from the Greek New Testament which literally means “within yourself.” You are content when your happiness comes from within.

As a Christian, God’s contentment is within you. Contentment is a precious treasure which comes with the gift of salvation.

Contentment links joy with happiness. Joy is a spiritual condition of the heart. Happiness is a temporal condition based on circumstances. Contentment takes the spiritual condition of the heart and applies it to present circumstances where you find yourself today.

Apply contentment to every level and experience of your Christian life. Your home may not be perfect, but be content. Your husband or wife is with you by God’s marriage decree. Be content in your marriage.

Your job performance and employer satisfaction will grow by leaps and bounds when you work with a contented heart.

Churches prosper when members are content in Christ. We will pray through our problems when we are content. The Gospel flies gloriously before a lost and needy world on the wings of contentment in the hearts of its messengers.

We can be content because no matter how difficult the path we take, all will end well for a Christian. The worst it can be for a child of God is a long journey, a tired soul, and a safe entry into the Father’s house. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” (Psalm 23:6)

Jesus was content to follow God’s will even to the cross. The Christ of Calvary is praying for you to be content after you trust Him as your Saviour. Be content; the best is yet to come.

“Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.” (I Corinthians 2:9)
